- WSET does not accept late registrations. Cancellations arising from late registrations are subject to a £25 administration fee.

Course Format & Duration
Study Schedule
- Duration: 4 weeks
- Recommended Study Time: 3 hours per week
- Total Learning Time: approximately 12 hours (ideally spread over 4 weeks, though you are welcome to study at your own pace and complete the course sooner — for example, over 2 days at 6 hours per day)
This course is delivered asynchronously:
- No live sessions
- No fixed lesson times
- No mandatory attendance schedules
- Accessible anytime, anywhere — 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
You are free to:
- Study at your own pace
- Complete modules ahead of schedule
- Access course materials (eLearning lessons, quizzes, videos, etc.) for one full year after the course ends (Note: Discussion forum access closes once the 4-week period concludes)
Optional Sake Tasting Kit (Mainland UK Only)
If you are based in the UK, you have the choice to add the optional tasting kit, which includes 7 full bottles of sake (a mix of 250-720ml bottles), for an additional cost of £165. This price covers shipping to a Mainland UK address. Please anticipate a 5-to-7-day delivery period. Further details can be found here. For those living outside the UK, once you have signed up for the course, you will be provided with guidance on the recommended sake styles to acquire locally.
If you're based in Guernsey, the sake bar and shop Tokkuri is happy to provide the tasting kit locally. Please place your order directly with them, rather than selecting the tasting kit option during course registration.
Examination Information
The exam consists of:
- 30 multiple-choice questions
- 45-minute duration
- Pass mark: 70% (21 correct answers)
Exam Options
- Online: a surcharge of £30 applies
- In-Person in London, UK: free of charge
You may choose your preferred exam format and exam date at any time throughout the year. Please ensure your exam is booked at least 15 days in advance.

The online exam is available worldwide (including Hong Kong & Macau) except:
- Mainland China
- United Arab Emirates (e.g. Dubai & Abu Dhabi)
The online course itself remains accessible globally.

For the online exam, you will also require:
- a smartphone or tablet (e.g. iPad) as a secondary device
Certification

WSET Level 1 Award in Sake (Online Course)
All Level 1 study materials (including readings, weekly tasks, group tasting area, multiple-choice feedback tests, videos) are available online and will not be dispatched via postal service.
From 1 April 2025 onwards, successful candidates will receive a Digital Certificate and eBadge. Please make sure you provide your personal email address, not a school or work email, in case circumstances change in the future.
