Description:
Towari is a rare, 100% soba shochu made with soba koji.
Soba shochu is a relatively recent invention. It first appeared in Miyazaki in 1970, as creating soba koji is notoriously difficult due to the very hard surface of the buckwheat kernel.
This excellent shochu is full of rich, nutty and roasted flavours and a buttery smooth palate.
Recommended Temperature:Room temperature or warm. Adding water can mellow the grassy and grainy flavours, and opens up a delicious buttered caramel popcorn flavour. It’s expeically enjoyable with hot water (oyuwari).
Service Recommendations:Neat, or with a few drops of water, in a rocks glass.
Food Pairing Suggestions:
The aroma brings to mind a wide range of savory foods: fresh and charred vegetables, including spring onion, broccoli rabe, and radish, along with buckwheat, sesame seed, black olive and leather. The palate is smooth, mellow, and very complex.
