"Nikka From the Barrel" is an incredible Japanese whisky regarded by many as one of the greatest value for money whiskies in the world. It is full of spices (especially cinnamon and clove) and toffee, with some caramel and vanilla notes.
"Nikka From the Barrel" is produced from a blend of the "Miyagikyo" and "Yoichi" single malts as well as the "Nikka Coffey Grain" single grain whisky, embodying the expertise of Nikka’s master blenders.
This bold, high-alcohol whisky won the top prize in the "Blended Whisky" category at the World Whisky Awards in 2007 and 2010. It is definitely a must-have for those wanting to delve into the world of Japanese whiskies.
The Nikka Whisky Distilling Company has an important place in Japanese whisky history. Its founder, Masataka Taketsuru, is considered to be the father of the nation’s whisky industry. Taketsuru was born into a family of sake producers in 1894. He began working for the Settsu Shuzo company after graduation, and was selected by the company in 1919 to work in Scotland as an apprentice. There he developed a passion for whisky. Upon returning to Japan, Taketsuru joined Kotobukiya (which became Suntory) and supervised the completion of the company's Yamazaki distillery near Kyoto. Later, Taketsuru left Kotobukiya to found his own company, "Nippon Kaju K.K.", the precursor to "Nikka".
