Nakata Kishu No Umeshu Plum Saké (Shiro) is made by steeping the best quality Japanese nanko ume white plums in saké and sugar until the flavour of the plums has infused into the alcohol. These white plums come from the plum-growing region of Wakayama in Southern Honshu, an area once known as Kishu, hence the name "Kishu No Umeshu" (i.e. "plum saké from Kishu").
This umeshu is best served chilled, and can be enjoyed straight, mixed with soda, or combined with other beverages for a fruity cocktail.
It is free from fragrance, colouring and food additives.
NAKATA FOODS is the largest manufacturing firm of ume product in the region. The firm manufactures pickled umes and ume liqueurs that are traditional health products in Japan, and ume processed products from Kishu's nanko ume plums. The firm celebrated its 100th anniversary in 1997 and honourarily welcomed the Emperor and Empress of Japan at the factory. In the same year, the company also received The Minister's Award for Overseas Promotion of Japanese Food from Japan's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
